Ignition

Hello all,

I have to spark cominmg to the spark plugs.

Not surprising in light of what is to be found within the distributor cap.

My engine no. is 1953810- a 1978 1256 , AC Delco. I am confused about the offset or not so I do not know if have the problematic set up or the newer one.

The distributor shaft is turning, looking at the lug of the oil pump it appears intact. The shaft appears to have no play horizontally but there is vertically.

Other kind member has advised that I should go for Electronic ignition - I have already made enquiries about a Kit 10 Accuspark system that will come with a 3 ohms coil. I have read quite a number of threads on similar subject matter and I hope that I am on the right track.

Regards,

Bill

Hello again,

I am trying to understand what was happening that lead to the obvious sparking in mechanical advance.

Hello all,

My distributor is a Remy D204 9977105 AC Delco 2 (something possibly 1) F8.

Due to the amount of vertical movement in the shaft I presume damage was done to the distributor cap
which lead to shorting of the spark within the advance weights area beneath.

Have discussed with Accuspark about a full Electronic Ignition they were to supply a replacement distributor
but not now the case.

Can only find parts distributors for sale online.

Have any fellow club members a source for replacement or know of anyone who reconditions distributors.

Regards,

Bill

Hi Bill,
Try club spares for a second hand one, I'm sure David will have one

Two companies I have heard good things about, but not used myself, are "H and H Ignitions" and "Distributor Doctor". I have an idea the former are more about converting to electronic than reconditioning, but I may be wrong.

Cooperman and Droopsnoot,

Thanks very much for information. Accuspark do not supply my type of distributor. I will go down the road of combining reconditioning with conversion to Electronic if possible.

I used H&H for my distributer, I am sure that they will refurb or convert to electronic

Nice work by H & H, rebuilt and electronic setup - many years of trouble free use hoped for.
