Heater motor

Postby DIY Dave » Sat Feb 23, 2008 5:54 pm

Hi everyone

Can anyone help me with the heater motor on my 1975 1256 viva S. Only the fast speed on the motor works and I have traced it to the resister on the back of the motor, but I am having trouble getting a new resister that doesnt burn out.

I have been told that it is a 4 volt 18 watt but electronics is not my strong point any advice would be very much appreciated.

I am also trying to locate the flasher unit for the hazard lights they are not working again any tips would be appreciated.

Not sure about the resistor, someone else will know that. All I know is that it is a wire wound choke type, not an ordinary resistor.

The hazard flasher unit should be clipped onto the metal to the right of the pedals. It's the curved piece of metal in the footwell that joins the metal lower part of the dash. It is also where the normal flasher unit is.

I have also seen it attached to the steering column inside the black plastic shroud. I've only had 2 vivas with hazards, and they were both different!

Hi Mazzo

Ive had a look where you said for the hazzard warning flasher unit I think its been removed and not replaced I just cant find it anywhere. I will trace back from the switch and try to locate the connection.

Cheers

When the resistor went on my Audi coupe, I got another one from a Ford Escort in a scrapyard. The intermediate speeds weren't quite the same (the resistance in each section must have been different, and it's a 3-speed fan on those) but you could use the same thing if you just want to get a two-speed fan working again.

Hi Droopsnoop

Thanks for that I will give it a go and look in the scrap yards Im not bothered how fast the fan spins as long as it is working.

I have been into RS components this morning and there technical guy says its definatly a 4 vlt 18 watt resister but they only do 2 vlt 9 watt they come in packs of 5 and you can run 2 in series giving a total of 4vlt 18 watt.

If they dont work then its back to the scrap yard lol

Regards
