battery voltage at idle?

Postby fuel » Wed Apr 23, 2008 6:54 am

hey guys, it seems my HC may not be charging the battery as it should be? The ign light remains on but will start to fade out at high revs. The battery voltage measures 12.6V at idle and will increase to about 12.9V when given revs (high revs too), surely it should be a bit more than this?

Is it a failing Alternator you guys reckon?

before you go and get your self another Alternator.
try swapping your battery for a known good 1.

a duff battery wont accept charge ............

normal volts should be about 13.4v @ 2500rpm..............

nah fan belt isn't loose, can see the fan of the alternator spinning quite fast with the engine. Battery is about 6 months old but it has been sitting for a few months. I thought it was dud when it wouldn't turn over the engine but that turned out to be the starter motor. It seems to charge up OK using a battery charger. I'll get the battery checked out anyway.

Cheers guys!
