Paint for VIVA HC

Postby Viva Man » Thu May 20, 2021 11:49 am

Hello,

I will doing some repair on lower body of my Viva HC 1972. The colour is Honey Starmist metallic gold. I am stuggling to find the Colour code for this.
Does anyone have the same type colour car or can point in the direction of company that could match this colour.

Any help would be great

Thank you

Paint codes are in the HC Technical Details section in this forum.

However, to save you the trouble I looked it up it is 5YW. That may not help you as many paint suppliers don't keep the old Vauxhall codes on file anymore.

You might be surprised. I got my paint mixed in my local auto parts store they were able to look up the Vauxhall code and the computer showed them how to mix it correctly.

You may get it mixed to the formula for the colour code but if you are matching to existing 40+ year old paint you may find the old paint colour has changed with age. I would suggest that you take the car or a piece from the car to your local supplier/paint mixer for him to colour match.

Mine was getting a full respray at the time so it didn't matter too much to me . As you say Fred, matching in sections against a 40 year old fade isn't as easy.

Hello,

Thanks everyone. i did try a paint supplier who sent 5YW in yellow/cream.

I have also found a Honey Starmist - metalic code 5YW 2169/ 1969 which looks to match but from the HB range.

I'm only repairing the front under fender below the bumper.

I think i may need to find the closest match.

Thank you

That 1969 colour carried through to the end of 1973 so those codes are correct. There is a website that I can't find now that gives the equivalent codes across a range of paint manufacturers. That is helpful as most paint suppliers and usually find one of those equivalent codes.

Hi All,

Managed to match the colour on my gold Viva. We used Vauxhall sapphire gold with slight added black in to bring down the brightness. Phew!!

Going in next week for some touch ups.

Thank you all for your advice. Its great that we have this forum. :) :) :)
