Initial fitting of wings/snoot and bonnet , they appear to line up pretty well.
Im relieved that the cut back f/glass wings fit quite snugly up to the nosecone - just need a little fine adjustments before i weld on the steel strips to which the tops of the wings will be bolted.

Steady progress being made there Jon.
What it the inhibitor you are using?
Is it the stuff that looks like milk?

Boyd :)
Please don't sell me a Viva. I'll just ruin it.

Boyd , I presume you mean rust inhibitor - its Bilt Hamber's Hydrate 80 .
I find its better to apply (doesnt run) and it actually does what it says on the tin!
Cheers - Jon

Finaly managed to line up the front end before welding the wing retaining strips on - used 3mm thick / 25 mm wide steel and braced with 12mm box profile to eleminate any sideways movement at the bonnet hinges.
Using hex key stainless steel dome head bolts and alluminium profile strip to "sandwich" the wing in place.

Joined up he corners of the slam panel to the tops of the inner wings - wanted to achieve maximum strength with minimal panel work as this area is where the top bolt of the snoot to wing is located, and its a bugger to get at!
used 3mm steel plate and some 5/8ths tubalar box profile - all nice and solid now :D
Seam sealered all the welds and painted black , sods law - run out of black paint on a Sunday

Got some more paint today - im using Rustoleom Combi Colour - similar to smoothrite but brushes evenly and only needs one coat, unlike the hammerite smooth , which i find is quite thin and needs a few coats to get a uniform finish. Its meant for industrial steelwork so it should be good stuff , also it doesnt go brittle like hammerite when its fully set and has a rubberised feel to it. Engine bay now all in black!

Excelent work there mate.
That paint sounds like the stuff i've got from a local car paint shop. £20 for a massive big tin. Its like smooth hammerite but as you say isn't brittle. I'm in the middle of covering everything underneath in it!

Made a bracket to hold the weight of the nosecone , used tubular stainless steel bar and welded locating tags on each end in order to bolt via angle iron to the body. Fibreglassed in place , and also re-inforced the edge of the nosecone with fibreglass (where it bolts to each wing) . Then made good all the joins so that it gives the perfect fit when all bolted back together.

All these fidly little jobs dont half take up the time!
managed to work out a method of retaining the light boxes with one single bolt  Got the idea from Simon's Silver Bullet replica.
Used stainless steel tubular box section and various bits of 4mm steel to make the retaining bracket which bolts direct to the inner wing.
After a bit of effort the snoot to wing joins are very good.
As is getting close to Billing I thought i;d better divert my attention to getting it runningas the next step.
