Is there an easy way to tell what size OHC engine you have.

There is a code cast in the block on the upper surface, below where the carbs will sit. I forget the meanings of the various letters, but later 2.3 engines have "2.3" cast near the core plugs. If you come back with the stuff you see stamped on the engine in that location someone might have the list. It might be in the parts book but since the fire in the office I don't leave mine here.

Numbers

Postby hutchimr » Mon Jan 23, 2006 4:27 pm

These are the numbers on the block,
25 B 1
8825612
MMC 624502

There is also a large letter A and L.

I have just realsied it's obviously not the original engine and wondered if I could tell what sort without taking it to bits.

Thanks
Mike

Engine identification

Hi Mike

The large "L" tells you its a 2000. (An "S" would be a 1600). I think early 2.3's used the same block as the 2.0 but has 2.3 stamped up by the engine number.

Thanks for that, I was only trying to make sure it was a 2000 not a 2.3.

Thanks again
