Hi all,
Some may remember my topic recently about an OHV clutch change and possible wrong parts (Link)
Thanks for all who helped work out the details there.
My query now is about the Gearbox, as I have taken the car to a more competent mechanic and he discovered the knocking/rattling noise was not from the thrust bearing but the layshaft in the box.
Can anyone advise what the best course of action is, or rather what options I have? I'm guessing ideally someone who knows the box and able to recondition it, replacing parts as required?
Many years ago I obtained a replacement box from eBay but a specialist told me the box was in not great shape. Therefore I may have some usable spare parts and who knows, maybe the layshaft is perfectly fine in that box.
I'd rather once and for all get a box in as good a condition as possible by fully reconditioning, but don't know where to start. It's not something I'd like to take on myself.
So, any advice, help or pointing in the right direction would be thankfully appreciated!
Cheers,
