Thanks for clarifying that Thomas, I couldn't remember if the distributor rotation was clockwise or anticlockwise on the OHV engine, I just remembered that I got it wrong many years ago ending up with leads 1 and 4 swapped, or was it 2 and 3?

Hi,

I have had a new carb fitted and it runs a lot better, although it still rocks badly when ticking over. I had a professional look at this and he is pretty sure the head has not been converted from leaded to unleaded. this would explain the poor running with valves burnt. So i'm have the head reconditioned. fingers crossed.

I have never experienced that sort of deteriation due to not having the head converted to unleaded - it would have had to have had a good thrashing - I think its clutching at straws - what rpm are you setting the tick over book says somewhere round 800 rpm

Hi

Havent really checked the RPM tick over. But it sounds like its ticking over at the right speed.

The car states 30k miles, but prior to 2006 i don't have mileage evidence. It may have gone round the clock. so could be worn.

She pulls ok ish. Had a Weber carb fitted, before that it was a zenith 301z. but it runs a lot better now.

Like Fred, I've never experienced burnt out valves on a car that's been sensibly driven and not converted to unleaded. A simple compression test would show it up and would cost a lot less and make more sense than getting the head reconditioned on a guess.

Hi Viva Man,

I bought mine thinking it was 26,000 miles and later found out it was round the clock to 126,000 and I was running on unleaded with no problems. I can guarantee the head had not been reconditioned to run on unleaded.

Like Fres says I think this is clutching at straws
