Oil pickup problem on HA 1966

My HA is standard and if left without startup for say 2 -3 months it will not pickup oil and I have to prime the pump to get it to build oil pressure! I have been told this was a problem on this model that oil drains out of the pump over time and then no pressure! Once it has pressure no issues at all unless it sits a while!
Has anyone out there had this issue or know of a fix for this??
I am going to replace pump with a new one but now i have learned there is a centre drive or and offset drive?
Is there an easy way to tell by looking at motor which it has???
Am all the way across the waters in NZ and not many HA cars out here now!
