Colin wrote:Thanks very much for this James. You've provided a real service to the rest of us with this detailed account of the issues with these rubbers. Whatever car these rubbers are designed for it certainly isn't Viva HB. The profile looks a lot more complex than the relatively simple HB Viva OE rubber profile.

I'm kicking myself that I threw out the old rubbers from my car. It would have been useful to compare the original rubbers' profile with the Classic-Car-Seals one you've kindly provided.

I have an East Kent Trim Supplies rear cut and shut rubber to fit. I will post up a picture of the profile for comparison before I try to fit it and let you know how I get on.

That's no problem Colin. Just hopefully it helps others from getting caught in the trap I did.
I have 2 original screen rubbers, but both are rotten unfortunately. I did check the original against classic car seals rubber and even though it looks similar, it's far from being correct, even after all the modifying I did to the rubber, it's just not safe to have it fitted.

I'll get a picture up tomorrow, of the profile of classic car seals rubber and we could compare east Kent trim against it.

James, if you could post a picture of the original rubber it would be a good idea for comparison with both the Classic Seals rubber and the East Kent rubber.

I'll do that later on after work. Me and my dad both believe the screen rubber they supply, is possibly for some american car, as it's about half a foot wider than the viva

So i've taken a picture of the new rubber on the left and the old rubber on the right. They look near enough the same, but that's because i modify'd the rubber that much to be like the original, so unfortunately i don't have a piece of the rubber how it looked originally, but on one picture below you will see 3 arrows and the left and bottom arrows, is where i have modified. The left arrow points to where there was a bridging section of rubber, stopping the glass from going in far enough. The bottom arrow points to the part that goes over the lip of the body and that wasn't deep enough. After them modifications the rubber was weak. The right arrow points to the flaps, that are far too big and causes buldging around the outer of the rubber.

All other mods are in previous updates, this is just for comparison between each rubber.

Thanks for keeping the info coming James, just looking at the seal its completely different to the original there's no way its going to be a good fit.
It would be great if we could get these muppets to quit selling rubbish like this, have you been in touch with classic car seals to tell them that you have posted it all online, i would.
Think its about time we had some "sticky" on the forum or something to highlight all these issues that come and then disappear into the background. :goodideasign:

Funnily enough.. I was thinking it may be best, the forum has a section, to show what's good to buy/use and what's not good to buy/use, giving a detailed reason why. As I could imagine it would save some people hassle.

I've stopped bothering with messaging them now, as they're not replying. I'm just taking the blow and seeing it as a chance to help others. I've ordered a screen rubber from rare spares, purchasing it through eBay.

Sounds like a good idea James and Bill. I'm sure committee members will read this post and might consider this suggestion?

Back to the screen rubbers. This might be a bit closer to the original?

Yes, that's the off the roll one that Woolies Trim have been selling since the 1980's to suit a Viva.

Screen rubbers, in fact nearly all of the rubbers are a problem with our Vivas, a few have used MK1 escort screen rubbers & have commented that they are a tight fit, you're right to import anything you need from Australia in my opinion, as I have done previously, as the fit was good, griffin design ( I think that was the name ) reproduced a screen rubber out of silicon rubber & I have one on my '90' but I believe he stopped manufacture a couple of years back, good to know Mini opening window rubbers are compatable with Vivas, looks like you're nearly there with the restoration, the feedback that you have left on your problems helps us to overcome similar problems we may face in the future, hope it all goes well from now on.

Decided to go for it and ordered all the seals that i was interested in, ie front/rear screens and rubber locks, bailey channel, i/4 light, bonnet lacing, outer door glass seal.
One week to get to UK, one week in customs, and one week with Parcel force, would have been two if PF has delivered when they said.

Front screen seal is the only one that says made in Thailand, so definitely not made in Australia that one.

Not cheap by any means so i hope they all go together perfectly, the fact they have fitting videos on youtube would suggest they are good.
James how did the mini seals work out on the opening windows?
