Canadian 1969 car build sheet

Postby caribougone » Fri Dec 04, 2020 5:40 am

I found the fragile remains of this paper partly stuck to the hump under my Epic's back seat. (along with chewing gum wrappers, drinking straws, a dime dated 1970, etc.) There doesn't seem to be an options plate in my engine bay anywhere, so I was especially excited to see this.

It's a base model but spec'ed for Canadian winters - bigger heater & battery, -30°F antifreeze, and option 488: "Low temperature starting." Also to please the DoT here, it had emissions *Bleep*, tandem brake master, seat belts all round, hazard & reverse lights. Interesting that it's a model 93111 - my VIN starts with 93131.

very cool!

In terms of the 93111 - all HBs VINs start with 93 (HC starts with 94)

GTs in the UK start with 93711 - and in Canada 93731

HCs are 94...

HC were never 94

The early HC started as 93, the 3 later changed to a letter C,D,E or F

C = Viva E,
D, = Viva L or Firenza
E = Viva SL, GLS, Firenza or Magnum (single carb)
F = Firenza Sport SL, Magnum (sports twin carb)
F = Firenza High Performance (HP) Droopsnoot

Interesting. Perhaps the 4th digit being a 3 is a Canadian or export thing.

While scouring the internet I came upon a scan of a page from a 1968 Canadian GM manual explaining the VIN for '67/'68 Epics. Thought I'd add it here since I'd mentioned earlier in this thread how my VIN was a little different from most Vivas.

Bear in mind an 'Envoy Epic' is a Viva, and just 'Envoy' is a Victor. Both models VINs are decoded together at the top of the page.
