Hello,

What does this stamping mean? The head has on the dizzy side HC as well, does that mean High Compression?

Thanks

I always thought it was the pistons that decided whether an engine is high compression or not, but I'm not well up on the OHV engine - I'm certain that's the only difference between 2.3 LC and HC engines.

I've seen something similar on a Facebook group recently and the discussion seemed to suggest that various reconditioners used to mark blocks and heads this way. Again on OHC, Blydenstein used to stamp stuff into the back of the head to show that work had been done.

As Mike says the compression ratio as far as I know is determined by the piston shape or the thickness of the head gasket. Example being the engine in the early Bedford HA Van had a thicker head gasket to provide low compression
