I assume you've already tried Norwich Union Direct via their website. They're usually not too bad as a starting point.
Try Adrian Flux if you haven't already as they specialise in classic and custom cars and have always proved competitive for me.
They'll usually beat any verifiable quote.

Also, this sounds daft, but if you add you mother on as a named additional driver it usually results in a much cheaper quote.

also, I forgot to mention, going for a "limited mileage" policy of 5000 miles (if appropriate to your needs) will also knock a
significant amount off the quote.

mmm, odd one that. My V6 HB is 36 years old and Flux's insure that for 140 quid!
One of the few benefits of being over 40 I guess :-)

I'm sure some people will disagree, but I've always thought it's scandalous the way insurance companies exploit young drivers just
because they know a young person will pay *anything* to get their first car on the road.
The idea that they do it because of increased risk is, at best, an abuse of statistics. What happened to "innocent until proven
guilty". Surely they should penalise people who have accidents instead, yet they now do the opposite by giving "protected for life"
NCBs to oldies. What sense is there in that!
Make crashers pay, I say.

I agree, i wouldnt mind paying anything less than a grand for my first car.. thats why if i cant find any insurance companies that wont insure me fore less than that... il be getting a tax exempt beetle...

i do understand why there so high for new drivers, its kinda obvious.. but there too high!!! gettinga quote of 2500quid is abit stupid.

also, if my mum was to make me a named driver, i wouldnt get any NCB's would i? or has that all changed now?

Try CIS (co-operative insurance) or Endsleigh. They both specialise in young drivers and will let you pay monthly. Matt.
