The problem for young driver's is that insurers rate cars on engine capacity so even if you have a dog slow 1300 it will be cheaper to insure a modern 1.0. The best way for youngsters is to grit their teeth for 2 years and run the cheapest smallest bucket they can, then get short term insurance as a named driver for mum or dad's spare car as and when they need it. You can get some discounts with pass plus but only for first year. Some companies offer parental control policies but these were not that good for my kids. Tesco and Privilege were always the cheapest. Remember, if your car is dirt cheap you are never going to claim. Only theft claims get investigated, so why not lie? Say your car sleeps in a garage, use granny's address if she lives out of city centre. At least you are getting no claims bonus. Having said that you should be honest at all times so ignore what I've just stated. Just make sure you DO NOT GET POINTS!!
