weber manifold for slant four

Postby MattyE » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:54 pm

Hiya all,

I have aquired a manifold to fit the slant four that will take a single downdraft weber... any thoughts on what carb would be most suitable for a 2300? I was thinking a 38dgms?

the engine is standard except rebored to +40 and converted to unleaded

if you get your engine in before I do let me know how it goes!!

seems like the right carb to go for.. I have seen that you can buy the 38 off the shelf jetted for 2.3 or 2.6 as well as the 3litre

I want to get my engine bay resprayed before I re-mount the front suspention and get the engine&box back in, the car is living outside so its all weather dependant at the moment!! got the paint, got the compressor.. just need it to stop raining :x

Wouldn't twin carbs be better on a long engine like this? There are lots of twin strombergs about which are cheaper.

well, I could go the twin stromberg route.. would certainly be cheaper, but harder to keep balanced and probably worse mpg!

also I like to be a little different! :P

Another carb that fits that manifold is the 28/36 DCD Weber...although i feel it is a bit pushed on the 2.3. Works very well on the 2 litre & 1600/1800 engines though.
My preference for the 2.3 is to use twin 2 inch SU HS8's or, if you can find them, HIF 7's...they fit on the Twin Stromberg Manifold and give a very good increase in torque & bhp with a free breathing manifold & exhaust.

What about the 38DGV? They used them on the Pinto engine...a good carb i believe.

Thanks for the input Paul, hope you are over the flu and feeling better now :)

I do have a manifold for twin 175's in the garage, so the SU's could be an option...

do you know what profile needles i would need to use HS8's on a 2300?
most of the info i've found on the interwebs about twin HS8 setups is related to Jag motors.. and im a little way off the 4.2 litres

They used the HS8s on the Series one 2.8 Jags too....i reckon those needles would not be far off what you need.
