fiberglass bonnet on a steel frame

Postby ade » Fri Nov 06, 2009 9:46 am

A few people have asked how i made the bonnet , Should have posted this up a while ago but have been so busy with the new unit.
I wanted to keep the clean lines off the body so wanted the bonnet to operate as normal without bonnet pins.
To keep the strength i decided to deskin a normal bonnet and fiberglass the frame to the fiberglass bonnet , I should have took a few more pics along the way off the skin removed but forgot

Very good Ade , how did you "glue" the frame to the skin? Any special adesive , or did you eventually lay glass fibre over the frame?

Glued it together with some good silicon from work first and then left it over night to dry.
Then poured fiberglass resin into all the gaps around the edges , it was a bit messy but seemed to work ok

Looks good Ade, you did a good job.
I'm still waiting to hear from fibreglasser who is building one for me.
