Its better to find out these things as you go along :D
Now you know it all works in practice - when a refurbed box goes in , it will last for years !

Same to be said for engine conversions - its all very tempting to strip and rebuild an engine before it goes in - but we have to make sure it will all fit / work before any expensive reconditioning takes place.

The position of the gear lever if different from original should not make a difference to the DVLA as when vauxhall fitted the ZF to the Snoot they cut the tunnel out with the hot spanner and fitted a plate over the rest Steve
is there any cure for buying vauxhall cars

I've found one in my garage too :D my parents didn't throw it away after all :D anyone want to do the conversion for me? lol, and has anyone by any chance got a gear lever for one? seems to be missing :( I have, however, found the engine that my particular 'box was fitted to, and it's just gathering dust in a garage across the street from my parents' place :D 2.1 Pinto

Paul, that spigot shaft looks rather long. Are you sure that's not a V6 box? There should be 3 cars getting the 5 speed treatment now including a Chevette.

TBH Craig I was told it was from a pinto unit. I haven't even check it out or over could be knackered for all I know, but at the price I had to jump....

I will start looking at numbers on the box and see if it matches up with things.... I do know however the hole for selector is too small :( as I cannot get 2nd or 4th.

More news when I get to look at it :D

Checked the box over Craig, according to a book I have it is deffo a PINTO box and not a V6 one :D

First gear is 29 teeth (petrol) 4th gear is 18 teeth (Not 19 teeth as per V6).

The weird thing is that the input shaft appears to be off a V6? front front face to end of shaft is just over 8" not 7" (ish)

:new2_shrug:

The hole drilled for the selector shaft comes out of the box 7/8" and the hole is only 1/2" so I will need to get that drilled deeper, hopefully not so deep it breaks through. :scared3:

That's odd, 4th gear is part of the input shaft so if it's 18 teeth it shouldn't be the longer shaft. You've lost me with the selector shaft problem. I can rebuild type 9s in my sleep now so if it needs doing send it my way.
