I did a cold setting prior to starting the car, then once its warm I did reset the tappets with it at idle speed.

The above video if of the engine running during its warm up phase, so its running with only cold set tappets. Needless to say Its a lot quieter now I have reset them.

I am sure it will make noise again soon as the head and valve gear settle down. :D

I Cannot understand how youy can adjust the valve clearances with the engine running at idle speed?? :new2_shrug:

That is what Vauxhall recomend,but I could never get on with that method,so I always just do them hot.

just done mine both ways again tonight, I've got one tappet that keeps loosening off, and I've found that there are different size stud thread diameters :roll:

Yep 5/16th and 3/8th smaller on 1057 and 1159 engines and 3/8th on 1256 engine.

Nut do wear down and get worn out, book says 3 pounds torque or less then change the nut for another. :D

that's what I was trying to do, but they were different looking nuts, and just tried different ones. I'll be seeing if I've got the right ones on another head :)
