wheels and tyres

Postby 1303r » Mon Dec 06, 2010 10:46 pm

ok, so this isn't really much of a modifcation, but this looks like the best place to stick this.
anyways, i've brought myself a hc saloon which has been lowered a lot and fitted with superlites and low profile tyres.
i'm not happy with the looks or the way it drives, tyres look lost in the arches, wheels are too shiney and ride is too bumpy. all my opinion, others may disagree.
sooo.
i could change out the springs for standard/longer ones, i got some with the car.
but what to do with the wheels/tyres?
i was thinking about selling them and buying some rostlyes and getting 175/70/13 tyres, or painting the wheel centers dark silver and getting bigger tyres.
think i'd need 205 60 13 to be wide enough for the alloys but will they clear the arches?
also would they be too big n look silly?
i'd like some input and pictures showing different set ups. please.
here's how it looks right now, sorry these are the only pics i have, will get some better ones up when i take them.

You could try 185 70 13 tyres,or as you say 205 60 13,that will give a better ride and give you back your proper gear ratio. When it was lowered a lot,did they fit shorter dampers? if not they will be bottoming out and that will make it ride *Bleep* too.
Did you read the Marmite thread in general discusion? the wheels look ok with a sensible tyre profile.

i'm unsure wether shorter dampers were fitted. the last owner swapped out the previous rear springs because the lower arms were hitting the chassis thou
not been underneath it yet, so there might not be any bump stops either...
the marmite car has a better tyre size then mine, imo.
i'd even step up to 14/15 inch if i could fine some used wheels in 4x4"

15's look great on HC's got some on mine with 195 50 15 and 195 60 15 tyres,I think. Not by choice it's what the secondhand rims had on when I got them. Think I have a side view pic somewhere, will post it on here tomorow night.Got another pic of it on 7x17's too if my mate ever finishes scanning them!

Hi
your current set of alloys look like they have 175/50r13's ???? so, 7J R13 alloys, straight from the mini catalogue. Too small a radius for the Viva, will affect gearing. Correct diameter tyres would be 175/70r13, 185/65r13 or 205/60r13s. 205 will go nice on 7 inch rims.
If you have the 175/50's and they are in good nic, might be interested in buying off you........
Hope you find what you like.
Cheers 8)

yep 175 50 13. and yes gearing is not good.
just checked. tyres are bridgestone, two are very good but one is getting close to the tread limit. what they worth? i think i'll order up some 205 60 13's and sell these if i can then.
will 205 60 13 on a 7inch rim clear the arches? i will be raising it up a bit.

i think i'll just get some 205 60 13's and raise it a bit. and swap to 15's if i find any.
thanks
