Wheels fouling front panel

Postby Retro morgs » Thu Mar 17, 2011 7:43 pm

I've just fitted a set of 7x13's with 185-60-13 tyres to my saloon only to find that the passenger front tyre fouls the lower front panel on full right hand lock. The driver side is fine, any ideas what might be causing this?

If only one side touched them something is wrong, start checking joints and measuring...

Could be worn / badly adjusted castor rod - pushing that wheel too far forward

Get the castor angles checked - along with all the front suspension bushes .

Ive gone down the poly bush route on everything ! Damn b loody expensive - but dont half make a BIG difference to handling :D

I must admit, most of the bushes have more than had it! Looks like poly bushes as well then :D . Will a normal garage be able to check castor angle's etc?

Highly unlikely - best to phone around a few and ask - unless some spotty teenager can plug a laptop into your car they dont seem much use to us these days!

My thoughts exactly! I'm no expert on the spanners but when i take a car to a garage for them to either diagnose a fault or carry out a repair and they give it back in the same state it does wind me up. I cant get away with not fixing thing's in my trade!

I've sorted the wheel fouling the front panel problem :D A really simple fix in the end. I got underneath the front of the car today to look at the back of the front panel only to find a dent that wasnt visible from in front of the car. It must have been bumped at some point on a high kerb stone or similar and repaired by filling the dent with filler and not re-alligning the bottom of the wing and front panel. So a bit of tweaking, hammering cracked paint and filler later i've managed to get it back in place. I've got to repair a small section on the underside of the front panel but it's not visible so not too much of a rush. Right, now on with fitting the weber carb......
