45 DCOE Webers

Postby House » Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:24 pm

Who's running one and what jets etc are you running? Mine is almost right but i'm not in a position to have it rolling road tuned anytime soon. It's been in the garage now for 4 months without moving and i miss it.

I'm not going back to the CD150 either as it's on it's 3rd now.

Please help before i get fed up and move it on!

Hi

Well, I run a 45 on a 1256....... and its a bit of a git. I spent a lot of money on rolling road setups etc and whilst the car goes well, the idle settings are a git. Its either too fast, or stalling. From my experience I would ensure you use a small venturi - the 36 sounds sensible, mine are 38's which probably explains the poor low throttle behaviour I get as there is little air flow and as a result very little vacuum generated in the verturi to create the fuel signals.

I don't have the setup to hand, but (with a bit of time) get these off the car and post, but they will mean little as the venturi sizes are different.

You can of course also refer to the A series 1275 carb settings, a very similar engine by design and cc so these will also be pretty close..... that said, thats what Istarted with and ended up changing mains and emulsion tubes.....

Do you think a 40 would be too small on a 1256 then? I would have thought a 40 will be just right whereas a 45 will be a little on the large side.

My plan is to use the settings for the 1275 A-series on my 40 to get it running well enough to go to a Weber specialist in North Kent. My mate with a 45'd 1330 A-series used them and said they were brilliant and not much more expensive than a standard rolling road session, despite them having to change quite a lot.

I think you're being very ambitious trying to set one up without a tuning session though, especially without knowing the actual settings you will need. IMO you will be better off buying a £15 carb rebuild kit for the Stromberg and making sure its all rebuilt and working well, then once you have the money get the Weber set up.

I've also been told to sell on my second hand one and buy a new one simply due to the amount of problems people have with second hand Webers, which is what my mate did after spending loads of time and money getting nowhere on a second hand job. I do however have a rebuild guide for the 40 and 45DCOE from Minimag which I may be able to scan and PM you if I can find it.
