Viva HC engine swap

Postby steve_1984 » Fri Jul 15, 2011 2:14 pm

Just wondering if the nova 1.2/ 1.3 engines bolt up ok the 4 speed 1256 gearbox?

I know the nova 1.0 pushrod engines are the same fitment to the 1.2/ 1.3 f10 gearboxes.

Anyone fitted one before?

Would be a good conversion as those little engine take well to tuning!! :D

I was a bit confused by your post in my thread, i'm assuming you meant no - you don't know if it'll fit, as i'm pretty sure the manta gearbox wouldn't mate up to a nova engine, with the nova engines being a small block, I could be wrong of course..

the small block engine will fit a manta 1800 or carlton 4cylinder or omeaga v6 or 4cylinder gearbox (your best bet is a 240 getrag from a manta 1800 though as its the smallest)
failing that a xe bellhousing for a ford type9 (150 quid) is even smaller
i fitted a friends chevette with a 1400 a few years ago and it went very well...

What about the prop though? surely that won't fit a type 9?

If a nova engine was a straight swap i'd go for it, but for the hassle of swapping lots of bits around i'd rather wait till I can afford to do the redtop conversion. :D

The Nova unit is an opel engine not a vauxhall engine, block differnt even though its still an OHV engine, dont confuse the two as being the same.... I was hoping you might take up the challange and come up with an adapter plate.

As for red top conversion, then you needs to change the whole lot; axles, brakes, gearbox, engine, custom prop shaft, custom exhaust etc... better start saving now fella... :goodluck:
