Undergeared HB

Postby JELZ » Tue May 15, 2012 12:06 pm

Hi there, my 1970 HB is massively undergeared ie 3,500RPM in fifth (1700 Crossflow Engine and Ford Type9 Gearbox) is 65mph, I am running a standard Viva 1200 axle and wondered if anyother diff/axle combinations fit without welding etc. I could prob go a bit bigger on back tyres however I need a more drastic modification I think. Your help please.

standard axle on a 90 spec saloon is 4.24:1 on the deluxe the diff ration is 3.89:1

other options are magnum axle which could be anything up to 3.45:1 BUT new prop would be needed, new inner trialing arms and a new handbrake cable setup.

perosnally if your undergeared its either swap rations in the type 9, (lots of variations off the shelf) and or larger back wheels :goodluck:

Thanks for the reply, I will look into ratio's for type 9, I hadn't considered this previously.
