What happened to the Lotus plan? Heres an idea, leave it alone, its not broke, dont fix it.

If Chevy V8s fit, a V6 will have plenty of room..seen a couple in HBs, no mods to bonnet :D

Tell me how an engine that's too tall will fit ? yes a V8 may fit but that's no taller than the existing engine, one has to stop thinking length and width and think of height...

I have seen three attempts now to fit the VX omega / carlton V6 engine, each attempt has failed and on the whole comments about it being a BIG engine, too wide or too high. All three attempts I have seen, have ended up in the car being lost :( However there are lots of other V6's that will fit with ease.... The old Ford unit being an obvious choice. :D

I investigated this and the RedTop conversions when I was planning to restart building my Firenza. I dismissed both on a number of counts.

1. My Firenza is a real 2300 SportSL and although not a very original example it should be a 'period' modified car.
2. Both the RedTop and V6 require extensive mods which would make it hard to go back to a Slant 4 without leaving telltale 'scars' and going back would probably never be done!
3. The cost, labour, trouble etc just to have a modern engine to impress the guys at the Saturday night car park meet is just not worth it!
4. There's nothing to beat the unique sound of a good, well sorted Slant 4, tuned or untuned.

I think that the best route is to mod the Slant 4 - if you want to go Lotus head - OK - but not a V6 or RedTop in a Magnum as good as yours. Remember yours is a real Magnum 2300 - a rare car - it's just an old car with a V6 or RedTop without the Slant 4.

I haven't done it but my understanding is that the crossmember is just in the wrong location and there is no easy way to mod the engine for clearance. There are no crossmembers in the Nova to get in the way.
