Ford Hubs & Vauxhall diffs/axles

Postby petespops » Fri Aug 02, 2013 2:26 pm

Anyone managed to fit ford hubs onto Viva stubs?
If so what's involved?

Any axle experts on here?

Do Viva diffs/axles have anything in common with the earlier Victor FB/FC series as regards halfshaft splines or differentals?

Will a Scimitar 4HA axle fit directly under without any mods to brackets etc?

Thanks :thanx:

-a scimitar 4ha is a good width for a viva but i need some modding to fit all brackets etc..
-not sure on victor fb/fc axles
- and i have had ford capri front struts with viva hubs on i believe one bearing was different for it to fit mad maybe it had a spacer or something i cant remember but basically from that i would say it was easily possible..

I have a 4HA from SE5A Scimitar in my Rally 2.3 Viva, the axle was modified by Ian Jemison to fit with the standard suspension arms, he has made a jig so can bracket up an axle for you without needing your car. My car uses Escort group 4 turreted rear Bilstein shocks and the jig has been made to accommodate these as they are about 1" longer than Viva ones, but he can easily make them fit the standard shocks, also the rear of the top arms house the bush as there is no ring on the 4HA, and the bolt goes through 2 mountings on the axle instead. The Scimitar brakes are almost the same as the Vauxhall ones so I just use those.

If you pm me with an email address, I'll send you some photos of mine

Surely the bearings are a different size or did you change them?

Vauxhall uses err6/err7 bearings, same bearings in Ford Escort 1-3 with "little" stub´s. I am not sure about my front axle which Magnum´s axle i have. Antiroll-bar is behind front crossmember.

The Standard Viva axle is a four link setup with inner trailing arms at 45 degrees to the axle, the Standard 4HA is a five link axle with the two trailing arms on each side of the axle above each other, and a panard rod. The setup is not compatible with the Viva without either Chassis and floor pan modifications or the other route to which DavidR has eluded. :)

I am in the process of shipping my axle to Ian in York, I have plumped for the modify the axle route rather than modify the car.

Not up on the other items you mentioned :goodluck:

The Viva and Magnum use the same bearings. It's interesting that the Escort 1.3 uses them too. If it only requires a spacer below the nut to make them fit it opens up a host of breaking possibilities as well as wheel options.

To further add to the mix, I was thinking Capri hubs, which have the "bigger" bearing rather than Escort's with the little stubs. I already have some 5 stud hubs which fit directly to Capri stubs.

So all in all question is fitting of Capri hubs to Viva stubs OR any Vauxhall 5 stud hubs to Viva stubs
