The bending wearing pedal box problem

Postby billy_bunter » Tue Jul 07, 2015 9:12 pm

I used to get this when I ran Viva's as a teenager. It was no great issue. Just go down the scrappy and find the best of the selection in the yard and fit it. Now I have the same issue again and have a spare to go in (Thanks Fred :D ).

Question - How have you got around this particular problem? Indeed have you ever had it?

This is the one that came out. As you can see this particular box has been heavily strengthened. Still bent the arm though!!

I seem to recall I've made my clutch pedal into a box section around the top to try to stop it collapsing. I've also welded a 3mm plate around the outside of the pedal box to reinforce the lip around the hole for the shaft. Finally the outer pulls against the bulkhead via a spacer, rather than pulling against the pedal box "ear". That's a HPF, though, so a much heavier clutch.

Agree with mike here - use washer on the bulkhead - spreads the load - just makes it a bastard to get the pedal box off
