HB Windscreen Wipers Alternative units

Hi
Has anyone swapped over the HB Viva wiper unit with anything else such as an Astra Mk4 unit?
An HB owner thinks he has a unit from a Carlton and it does fit in with no cutting about (if indeed it was from a Carlton). Looking on the net the Vauxhall Astra MK4 motor housing looks the very similar to his from what I can see through the scuttle panel.
The pic is sideways for some reason!

Have to ask why you want to replace it, is it for efficiency or lack of parts?

The original equipment was so naff. Underpowered, slow and one speed.

I've heard of Renault Clios, Astras, Mantas and others being donors of their wiper motors to HC's for the very same reason. I've considered researching and doing the mod on my car but as I rearly take it out in poor weather it's not high on the agenda.

Did you manage to find anything to suit, im looking into this at the moment as i need twin speed wipers, the rover metro looks similar but not sure if it has the same spindle width, not that its the end of the world, or may look at the original mini wiper as i have room inside to fit the motor.

Hi. No I haven't looked into it. The Vauxhall Astra units look the same size and would have variable speeds but haven't seen one in person to confirm fittings etc.

I've got a Cavalier Mk3 setup that I was intending to try to fit, but I've never done anything with it. I wonder where it is? I'm thinking of a heater refurb on the Firenza over winter, so that might be a good time to see how different it is.

I think a lot of wiper motors are similar to look at, but whether the dimensions are close enough is another matter. The three mounting holes don't matter as the mounting plate could be re-drilled.

How did that one turn out for you? im assuming you would have to alter the spindle mount holes, i think the HB is 20inch between spindles not sure on the HC

I would have thought that any proposed conversion would keep the original mechanism and only swap the motor, therefore not altering the spindle holes on the bodywork at all.
