HB cable bonnet pull

Postby rizzo » Fri Nov 03, 2017 9:38 pm

Aup, thought id post it on a new thread as it may interest some of the HB chaps that might miss it on my other build thread.
I decided that my build would have to have a bonnet pull inside the car, so decided to see what was available to fit to the n/s kick panel and long enough to reach the catch, after researching the good old net i came up with the landrover discovery, which according to people in the know was exactly the right length.

First problem was it was too long, :? so much for people in the know. so first off the bonnet catch was cut down and a cable nipple was found to locate in the hole which was drilled 8mm.

Cable is to be fitted under the wing rather than in the engine bay but where i have it mounted you can go either way.

there it is mounted to the nsf panel, the cable goes through the the bulk head under the wing, then back in at the slam panel to the catch, as i dont want it visable under the bonnet, but with a little reposition it can be drilled through for under the bonnet.
Once in place the outer and inner cable was cut down to suit.

so onto the cable support mount and catch

I bought a few long nuts a while back on ebay and thought this might work

I drilled them for the cable outer and inner

This is then fixed to the slam panel with a 4mm button head.

So there you have it, if you use the same as me you will have to cut off the cable ferrul end as the cable is too long but they are available on the bay for a replacement, (when i get mine fitted) although you may have to buy 10 at least for a quid.
I did think i may have to change the spring but once its all fitted it works easily and effortly. the operation of the pull cable will give you full movement to open the catch but it can be adjusted at the catch or the cable to suit. :D

Great idea, would work on HC's too. For those who don't have long nuts to drill the humble old fashioned bike brake cable adjuster and mount might be a simpler alternative but not quire as neat.

OK weird question did the UK cars not have internal pulls originally?

In short, no, but it was available as an optional extra

weird.

Seriously, I still don't understand why there was such a variety of configurations for this car - surely there would come a point where it was more economical to just put the paret on (or, in the case of North America) not ship to that country (which I realize they ultimately did)

I do have a cable for the GT is anyone needs measurements.
