Wheel Fitment?

Postby Tee » Mon Aug 07, 2006 2:30 pm

If you read my other post you'll know what I'm planning to do but I've come to realise 19's are unrealistic and as I'm planning to lower the car over the top part of the wheels anyway I think 17" chromes would look good, could you please tell me the wheel fitment size I need to look out for as I've seen some multi-fitment chromes, to my knowledge it's 4x108 but can you confirm this, cheers

Viva fitments are 4 inch PDC not 108 mm

Like we all said waste of time modern bling wheels, unless you get them specially modified which will cost top dollar

Wheel Fitment?

The PCD of the wheels is 4 inch, not a particularly common size recently days except on Metro's. You won't find "off the shelf"
wheels of more than 13" diameter in this fitment, you'll have to have them specially drilled to order.
However, beware, at the front end you will *not* be able to fit anything bigger than 16" wheels, even with the very lowest profile
tyres available, unless you plan on some serious cutting. This applies even more so if you're lowering the car.
To be honest anything over 15" will be quite difficult, but 185/50 x 15 tyres will just about go under a HB even with the car
lowered slightly.

I echo the sentiments of others, that large diameter wheels do not look as good on these cars as a good set of chunky 13" wheels
with 205/60s.
Obviously thats a matter of personal taste though, but the "fittability" issues I mentioned are a matter of fact. You might get 16s
under, with rubber bands for tyres, but anything bigger will need some cutting.

Nice idea but.. no no what am I saying? Its a terrible idea, quite apart from the physical problems it would look shocking.

the problem with modding the inner front wheel arches enough to clear massive wheels would be that you would also need to pull your pedal box closer to the seat because your throttle pedal goes down to the inner wheel arch!

Agreed it would look totally pants. Spend the money on a big ol engine conversion and some 13*7 revo's. Much more fun!

P.S. in mm's it's a 101.6 fitment. Unless some loon has fitted 'bling' wheels on an imp or a couple of other rare cars you are screwed.

Oh and 100's won't fit, well they will with some dodgy bolts from memory but that's so much of a bodge it's not even worth considering.

Plus from the picture you'd never be able to steer anything other than straight ahead. If you managed to find some 17" wheels that fit, you'll either have to get the speedo recalibrated, or put on really low-profile tyres, or it will be miles out.

I have a set of Revolution RFXs off my old Escort which I really want on my Viva. Iv'e been talking to some engineering firms about redrilling them to fit, but as yet I havn't found anyone confident enough to guarantee they'd be right. But when I have found someone I'll let you know. I guess you'd have to make sure theres enough space around the centre to get a hole inbetween the existing ones. It sounds nasty and wheels aren't something to take chances with but you can get multi fits with 8 or 10 hole so I rekon with a beefy wheel it would be alright. I'll keep ya posted.

Wheel Fitment?

Postby Sid » Tue Aug 08, 2006 12:10 pm

You often find the rear of the castings are made in such a way as to only properly allow one set of holes. I suspect this will be
true of the Revolutions. The undrilled sections between the existing holes often have cast recesses.

With 100mm (later Vauxhall) alloy wheels it is quite easy for a machine shop to simply recut the tapers at 4" PCD, drilling the new
taper very slightly deeper to cut away most of the old countersink so the nuts will seat in the new location. Usually that's all
thats needed as the holes themselves are wide enough to accomodate the difference.

However this wont work with Ford wheels as the size difference is too great. They could be drilled out begger and fitted with steel
inserts, but that would cost as much as a new set of wheels unless you have your own workshop.
