The V8 Viva progress.

Well after months of using the excuse that 'it's 130miles from me so how can i do work on it' I have brought the viva down to bournemouth, so can now bosh on with doing some work on getting that daimler lump to fit. Last couple of months have been spent getting the capri on the road and keeping it there and building the engine for it, so now I can dedicate some time to the viva, woot! Thing is I have access to a load of different ford V6's not 5mins from me and the two V8's I was planning to use are still back in herts. Thoughts?

If you're thinking of going the Essex V6 route you'll ideally want to find
sump, dipstick, front cover, and oil pick-up pipe off of one with the "pan"
at the front, as that will fit in the bay without mods.
Also, to fit 5-gears to an essex you need a modified bell housing to fit a
Type9 box. I used a V4 bellhousing, elongated mount holes and ground pivot
slightly to take an extended sierra clutch arm, but it still needed an 8mm
spacer plate to get the depth right.
Alternatively there's the Cologne V6, available with 5-gears as standard,
but I'm not sure how easily the sump clears the crossmember.
No doubt either of these fit more easily than the V8, but not quite as cool
:-)

Wow thanks a lot for that info! I was thinking essex but the bloke has colognes laying about as well - i'm thinking may as well just go for the full fat 3.0 straight away.
