Renault 11 oblong headlights to snoot light boxes

This is an area for discussion about modifications to Vivas.

Just to keep you updated,

The lights are on back order until mid December but I have managed to get three units off Ebay, they are the same Cibie units that Jon put pictures of from an american site above.

They use H4 bulbs so I'll have all four with high/low beams and side light bulbs although I expect to use only two as headlights and two as sidelights.

The part number for the units is Cibie/Valeo 082 402 and might be available (in stock) from other suppliers closer to yourselfs.

They fit inside the boxes so as Jon said the boxes will need some adjustment to give them a proper fitted look but not a lot of work and at £33 each i think for me its worth it.

Thanks for that Po, but i cant seam to find any links for them - have you got any contact details ? Also , are you getting 4 dip/high beam units?
The renault ones ive fitted have different lens patterns - ive fitted the dips to the outer and the highs to inner (as snoot i think) .
Also they only have a single bulb in each - so i cant get the dips to stay on (and go to high) when the mains (inners) are on- very frustrating . - dip are the 2 outers - high is the 2 inners only!
With the old vx490 ones i had fitted in the magard snoot - i managed to get all 4 units working as dip and high beam .
cheers - jon

That's correct for snoot though, inners only for main beam. My Firenza had a wiring modification that seemed to make all four stay on, but I'm not sure the switch is up to it. With some relays it should be possible though - maybe using the sidelights as the signal wire to keep the dip beams on when the mains are on. But only with relays though.

If you just phone around a few local motor factors and give them the make and part number I posted above and they should be able to help you out. I found two motor factors who can supply but neither had any stock so they are going to phone me when their suppliers get the next batch shipped in.

One of your local motor factors my still have ones in stock or at another branch. If you get any problems and can wait until mid December I can always get you some when I get mine, so let me know how you get on.

I haven't decided how I'll use mine, at the moment I'm just stock pileing loads of parts until I'm in a position to completly overhaul the bodywork, interior and machanics.

Whats that then? Looks good!

I phoned up my motor factors today and they still haven't heard from their stockist so they are going to chase up my lights tomorrow.

Hi Po , just a pic of a snoot cibie against one of the renault 11 cibies i fitted .
It gives a better idea of the sizes to see them side by side - i think the ones you have located may be slightly smaller again , therefore not needing a lot of chopping up of the boxes .
Either way - its nice to know there are alternatives (albeit not original) to the over the top prices of rusty snoot lights
Cheers - Jon

Had a phone call today to say the lights are now in stock, so I should have my set complete tomorrow. Then its just making up all the fittings etc :(

Heres some photos of the ones I already have as Jon said they are smaller than originals and fit within the boxes.

Are you sure?

Austin Allegro here....

Don't look right to me but there could have been revisions within the Allegro model.

Heres a Hillman Avenger lamp....

Looks more like it but are the snoot lenses that deep? Its been a very long time since I have seen any in the flesh.
