new interior (too much bling ???)

This is an area for discussion about modifications to Vivas.

Update on interior May 2010

Postby Jon-HPF » Mon May 17, 2010 10:55 pm

Following the work on new doors with flush handles , had to redo the door tops in leatherete - also covered the triangular section welded in to hide the outer mirror fixing. Fitted remote locking but refrained from fitting electric windows - didnt want to cut the door cards :(

New Toyota catch area (cut out and welded into the viva door)

Kept the Suzuki GTI buckets !

Kept the DTV dash cowl , replaced the little advisory things in the 7 dial with symbols to match the warning light centre cluster / painted needles white / digital speedo in place . Painted area of dash (top and bottom) covered in same leatherette as door tops . Snoot grab handle and wheel .

Replaced chrome gear knob with a leather one , fitted aux gauges into ahousing meant for a radio .Remote boot release switch fitted to drivers side of radio pod
[Hosted_Picture]Image[/Hosted_Picture]

Aux warning lights and mini toggle switches for rad fan / fuel pump / panel lights etc.

Rear seats , original lower cards used , but cut to accept seat belts (from same sooki gti as the seats) and to accept small arm rests

Next job is to get a decent headlining made from proper peforated black material - ive painted existing one black but its cra p - paint is flaking and it makes the material brittle

Thats looking well tidy mate. I have accomplished precisely SFA in the last year as far as the Viva is concerned. Too many other commitments! Refuse to sell it off tho.College finishes in June so hopefully get stuck back into it and get it seen off. Watch this space!

Like the door tops Jon, look very neat. I need to do something with mine and it's nice to know it's possible.

Wow- looks great! I had seats just like them in the last chevette- but they came from some hot escort- xr3?
I would love to see photos of the engine fitment.

Pic of engine from last year - fitted with Suzuki 1300 + weber carb, currently car is off road , fitting a fully reconditioned Suzuki Vitara 1600 8 valve unit mated to the sooki 5 speed box with an adaptor plate.

cool- thats certainly a interesting swap! :) My dad has a v6 vitara- that would be a nice swap. Very smooth engine.

I like the idea of a toyota 4age engine- or even better the supercharged 4agze :D

I wanted a more practical and powerful engine instead of the 1256 unit , but the biggest issue was a 5 speed box so a usual slant 4 swap was excluded :? .
Went for these Suzuki units cos they are all alloy and surprisingly nippy and not as sought after as the usual redtop / pinto or kent units (keeping costs within a reasonable level) :)

Although the 1300 unit mated to aN SJ 1300 5 speed box was quite quick - it did lack some power going up hills etc - hopefully the 1600 vitara unit will overcome this

That interior is looking so tidy! It's an inspiration to keep going and to try to achieve a similar level of finish. Would love for mine to look anywhere near as complete as this. As it happens I don't think any of my cars have ever looked as messy as the Viva currently does
