Postby BigWallace » Mon Sep 08, 2014 4:30 pm

Hi guys! The last two weeks have been spent Viva-ing & holidaying in Yorkshire & the Lakes... nice to get away for a bit! On the way home, I was informed that I'm going back on nightshift :imsmiling: So, I'll post the progress pics before I head off to work. O/S inner wing rot dealt with...

You're right there, Paul! The only other surprises I can foresee are the bottom of the door posts, which I am going to expose by removing the bottom of the wings (along the trim line) as they need repaired, which will be easier to do on the bench! Anyway, here are the other pics of the progress during the holidays...

Used Fertan for a while now & it seems to kill off the rot very well indeed... the Corsair's rust around the trim rivets hasn't come back through in two years & that's with no primer or paint! The remaining rust needs to be dampened before application to help it work it's way in.

Welded in the splash plates, Bonda primered & sealed the inner pillars before attacking the outer corners which were made in 5 pieces each side, then Bonda primered on the inner face before welding together... welding seems to melt rather than burn off the primer. It'll still need to be coated with Dinitrol from the inside to be safe! I removed the rust traps that the factory so kindly put in & left some drain holes.

The A pillars have been, by far, the most complex & fiddly job on Valerie to date! Well worth the effort though.
