With the viva now on the road and clocking up miles nicely, a few more outings to shows was in order. The first outing with the UVORWDC Ulster Vauxhall Opel Rear Wheel Drive Club (now the UVOCC) was to Lisburn in August 2017, specifically the old DeLorean factory which is now owned by Montupet, a cylinder head manufacturer. We stopped off at the local Vauxhall dealership for a photoshoot before making our way over. For a fee you were allowed to drive your vehicle around the old DMC test track but for fear of breaking any records I declined :giggle:

Its been a few months since my last update. About a week after the above outing the Viva got to take a trip to the autospark who got the spots up and running, they come on at full beam only and really do make a significant difference. This was a welcome addition now the darker nights were closing in and the 2 standard candles were struggling to even illuminate cats eyes. I attended another run, this time in Ballynahinch with the Peak Performance Motor Club. Interestingly I got talking to a gent that knew the original owner, he was able to point out a bolted on bracket behind the fan and informed me it wasn't standard. Apparently it had been fitted to help with cooling the oil :?:

Next on the agenda was a set of centre caps and closed end wheel nuts. Both items were sourced off eBay and helped take the bare look off the wheels (I did eventually get around to respraying the wheels during lockdown)

A few poor quality photos taken on a run up Slieve Croob 31st August 2017. My phone cameras have come a long way in 4 years!

Another expedition for the Viva this time the Down Run September '17 organised by a local in aid of the friends of cancer centre. I had a few friends along with me that day too, something Covid has stopped for now :( . 30 to 40 cars turned out to explore the scenic beauty of County Down on a 60 mile route. Once again I was the only Viva in attendance. I got talking to a Paul Ralph from Drumaroad who was transplanting a VXR engine into a Chevette at the time. A few weeks later he gave me the 1256 engine from the Chevette along with a few springs but more on that later.

Rear lap belts were the next modification to be added, just in time to keep my passengers safe while drifting about in the snow 8)

It was about late November when the viva suffered her first breakdown. Trundling out of Newcastle at a sedate 40mph the fan belt went pop (it wouldn't be the last time either) I had enough momentum to get pulled into a nearby car park and await rescue. The 1256 was also leaking a serious amount of oil and was in dire need of a rebuild, things had become so bad I was parking on a stony section of the driveway at home and anytime I went to the girlfriends house I was throwing a big sheet of cardboard underneath. This is where the Chevette engine given to me by Paul made its appearance. It was rebuilt and major heart surgery commenced in early February 2018. The Chevette engine is still in the viva today, I never got round to sorting out the original one yet but I held on to it as it matches the numbers on the old green V5.
