Does anyone know if you can get the "half moon" locking plates for the bolts that hold the front discs to the hubs? Has anyone found a supplier? As I have bent the locking tabs back to remove the bolts they have snapped off.

With my Midget I just used Loctite instead of locking tabs - never a problem

I looked for these for quite a while and didn't find any. I went around the NEC Classic Car Show a few years back asking various sellers, hoping that another car might use something similar. No-one mentioned these to me:

But, I don't know if the bolt spacing is the same on those, and I didn't find them until after I'd made some when I swapped the discs on my HPF earlier this year. Also if I recall correctly, the bolt spacing is different on the HPF to the other cars, but all the rest seem to be the same.

They're not a terrible thing to make, but fairly time-intensive and I found it very difficult to get them neat, as you can see in the photo. I did consider having some cut, but I think this is the first time I've seen anyone else wanting any.



So, does anyone know whether the Escort ones fit?

Thanks both, not sure about loctite as I always thought you could release it with heat, or maybe you need a lot of heat?
I think for the price I'll give those Esc*rt ones a go.

Interesting, I remember using it 30 years ago but the one I used was removeable so assumed they all were, it was a long time ago!

Indeed, there are a lot of types of Loctite. I have a bottle of one type that I bought for a good price, and that needs some ridiculous amount of heat to free it off. I saw an experiment done where someone had drilled and tapped a 1/2" hole in a piece of bar and inserted a suitable bolt coated with this stuff. After it had gone off, the bolt sheared before it would come undone. The only uncertainty is why I still have the bottle with "No, don't use this" written on it, rather than throwing it out.

A mate was doing some work on his Jaguar XK8 which required a suspension part to be removed because the bush had gone. It turns out that Jaguar use this grade of Loctite at the factory, to hold a part in where the bush will wear out sooner or later. He did tell me how he removed it, but I can't remember.

But there are much more reasonable grades around, and they also vary between thread lockers, thread sealers or both.

Lock tabs are old hat imho, this is all you need

Spring washers are good but they are not recommended in certain high vibration locations so in those situations locking tabs or locking wires are preferred. Having said that it's hard to see how the back of a disc brake could be a higher vibration risk than an inlet or exhaust manifold.

I reused the original tabs along with Loctite on mine.

Just an update, the F**d locking plates don't fit, they are for a larger pcd. will look into loctite
