For sale and wanted ads missing

Postby droopsnoot » Fri Aug 04, 2017 10:19 am

Since yesterday, when I bring up the site I don't see the bottom section where the various for sale and wanted adverts were appearing. Is this a conscious change that non-members like me don't see that section?

Unfortunately it is Mike.

The move was to protect vendors and not just to enhance the already good value for money that club membership gives.

That's fine, I'm not sure I necessarily agree with it but as a non-member, it's not down to me. I was just surprised it had gone without any warning.

Might be an idea to post something in the public area so that non-members are aware of what is available to members, on the basis that it might encourage them to join. Right now it just looks like the site doesn't do private ads.

On another forum I use, it's configured to display all sections, but with some of them marked for members only, so non-members get an idea of what's there - the idea being to try to entice people in. Can't say whether it actually makes any difference, of course.

What about those who've paid their membership, members access has not been activated yet and need to access those sections as their car is about to go to the bodyshop?

Thanks.

I dont get the reason at all? If you close the ads for just clubmembers you close the market to just clubmembers in total.
A clubmember might need a part that I can supply (as a public non member) and what is the benefits of preventing that?

I used to be a member but I just dont do vauxhalls and with three or four different club memberships, six children, a house from 1900 I just can not afford everything. But I am more than happy to help with parts but with that road closed it might be difficult.........

Same as, I'd love to join the club but when funds are tight and you have a mortgage etc, hence the running of a classic on a budget. I have 7 boxes of spares which I do sell from time to time if anyone wants anything. I'm sure the club has their reasons.

I don`t get it either and agree with the previous two postings. It smacks a bit of pseudo-eliteism, somewhat unfriendly and rather spoils a hitherto nice forum :?

David did send me a message with some background as to why the decision was taken, and by the sound of it, it wasn't taken lightly.

There are a lot of club forums that do it this way. It was not done for elite-ism, nor was it spiteful.
As with most changes, there will be people who have differing opinions, and there will be tweaks to improve...

The first and only thing I advertised on here it was posted two days with one party responding, suddenly it dissapeared. Just thought it would help mutually a totally rebuilt block for an HB surplus to requirements.

I went to a show today but my Viva played up when I parked up .
OK I did get a carb and box of bits from a member , but maybe due to electronic pump had problems since a totally rebuilt engine fitted, again sourced from a member but via EBay.

When today thinking electronic ignition and coil had sorted missing, it went back to its ways and wouldnt rev.
I couldnt get the idler jet undone as with the previous Zenith, so scoured the autojumble and fortunately found a pretty similar carb and swapped a few bits over, including the spacer betwixt the carb and inlet manifold , as the old one had cracked and fell apart,as admitedly did a new one off Fleabay when I tried to refit a mechanical pum

It seems the main holder of spares instantly available to Viva Folk is also a trader, but also when the owners club misslaid my initial membership I joined partly to source desperately needed spares, but got them elsewhere and joined a local Classic Club, which got me today into the Fordham show, (only Viva there), as also the Driver's club I had joined seemed to go to shows farther afield, but when my membership was found and internal politics reared there ugly head therein, I disjoined and stayed within this club.

Wasnt too happy to be chided considering the first years debacle to have been ticked off for sending my cheque by Royal Mail.
I find it virtually impossible to keep up membership renewals online but that is now an irrelevance as I wont be rejoining.
