Hi , I need a miracle, I have just been told that my cylinder head for my 1600 ohc is scrap.
I purchased one of flea bay about 6 months ago , only to find out it’s an 1800 and the water ways do not line up.
I need a genuine 1600 cylinder head.
If you know of one or have a spare one let me know please.

Cheers Rob

I'm sure I've got a 1600 head somewhere, I'll have a look and try to get some photos.

Wow Mike , I have definitely been looking in the wrong places.
If you have it would be fantastic.
What do you know about the electric detent valves fitted to the GM TH180 automatic boxes ?.

Cheers Rob

Nothing at all, unfortunately. I do have the GM workshop manual to the three-speed auto box and when I saw your post I had a quick read through that section of it, though I expect that's the manual you referred to in your original post. I could picture that if the switch on the carburettor is just a way of detecting that you've pressed the throttle down fully, it would be relatively easy to rig something up on the throttle cable linkage to do the same job (lots of cars have a "wide open throttle" switch), but that doesn't help you if the valve itself is faulty.

I have found what I believe to be a 1600 cylinder head (in that I have a head from my old Firenza 1600 and I believe this is it). I didn't have anything with me today to take a photo so you can check it, but I will have tomorrow, and I'll also take a 1600 head gasket to offer up to it for further confirmation.

For some reason, both valves are missing from one of the cylinders. The car went off the road because it went off the road - I crashed it into a ditch - so I don't know why these have been taken out. It wasn't because I found a problem with them.

Thanks Mike ,
Thank would be great, if you are not totally sure if it’s a 1600 could you measure the distance between the head bolt holes and the water ways.
I purchased one of flea bay last year the guy said it was definitely a 1600 but alas when I cam to fit it , several months later he was very much mistaken, I had one given to me as well from an old friend but this also did not marry up.
So I’ve plenty of good cylinder heads but not the one I need.
Opps I’m going on.

Looking forward to your reply, Cheers Rob.

I'll get some details tomorrow, I was on my bike today so don't take the phone in case I drop it.

It's either a 1600 head, or a 2300 head - I didn't strip the 1800 that I had, and I've never had a 2000. But I'll get some photos and measurements.

Here are some photos:

1. The head itself.

2. The head with what I believe to be a 1600 head gasket on it.

3. The head with a tape measure.

4. The head with a tape measure.

Hope that helps. If it isn't a 1600 cylinder head, perhaps someone could confirm what it is.

Hi Mike thank you ever so much for trying, that isn’t th the head for the early 1600 or 2000 , that is a later head for the 1800 or 2300.
Thank you again for having ago but it looks like I’ll need to stick with the cf engine and manual box that’s init at the moment or get the crank machined to accommodate the automatic gearbox.

Once again thanks Mike, cheers Rob

Oh, OK. I wonder where the 1600 head went then.

Do you have a photo of your 1600 head, so I can use that to compare?
