Drive it Day 26th April

Postby Fred Dukes » Thu Apr 23, 2020 9:25 pm

This years Drive it Day Events have been cancelled - FBHVC advice _
https://fbhvc.co.uk/news/article/federa ... t-day-2020
I agree that Gov advice is not to make unnecessary journeys however if you remember how this first started FBHVC asked us to put our vehicles out on view to help raise the profile of the Classic Vehicle movement.
So lets go back to the original intent - lets get our vehicles out and parked up outside your home :P
I for one will be doing just that
I did this on Easter Sunday and people passing on their daily exercise were appreciative of the extra colour to their outing - as long as social distancing is maintained I see no problem.

Here's mine, out on the front enjoying the sunshine. Turnout was a little disappointing as I live in a cul de sac, never mind, it's the thought that counts. Put some mags in the back in case anyone fancied a read

A successful day with 3 vehicles out - The Baron
- although he was a bit grumpy co he couldn't go beyond the road outside the house - and those damn bears were getting all the attention in Gladis and Peggy  - Gladis was displaying the huddle of bears
- Peggy was the platform for there pedal Viva with SL 90 (Fred's Ted) at the controls.

A steady flow of people stopped by to view whilst I kept an eye on things from my chair in the open porch or from the front of the garage where I could work on the garden bench refurb!
During the afternoon I was aware of a Police patrol car coming my way - as we are in dead end roads for traffic I was wondering what mission they were on - a slow pass of my vehicles and off round the corner where they turned round and drove slowly back and stopped by the vehicles - I am thinking ahoh! what do they want - keep your head down and keep sanding the bench - one officer got out and made his way to me saying are these yours?
Pointing at the vehicles - parked part on the pavement and around the entrance to my road - so you can imagine what I thought was coming next! - I said "yes they are mine" - " I used to have a white Viva Estate" he said  - so just proves policemen have the same list of comments as Joe public when they see our displays :P They both got out of the car and had a good look round the display
