Yes, very similar, but, it is only about 40 more horses - why go through the effort for that little increase? Either keep it original or make it worth your while in terms of power - V8?

It fits in the engine bay, obviously as it's based on the vauxhall slant, but there are a few mods needed. I cant think of them off the top of my head but it's not as straightforward as the 2.3 swap. Have you got one kicking around? They are on the expensive side and you will need gearbox, prop, and axle at the very least. Why not go for a less obvious route and fit a focus 1.6 SE (not to confused with the standard zetec), they are plentiful and cheap (can be got for around £100) they kick out tonnes of bhp and torque for the size, you can bolt them straight up to a mx5 box (which opens up the option of a 6 speed) and are fairly lightweight. It's based on a yamaha design i believe, and because of that will rev to 7-8k without issue. Also the puma SE is a 1.7 with vvt, nice :)

Don't know all the details but you'll probably need to start with an OHC crossmember unless you want to modify the engine mounts on the OHV one. The OHC cross member will give you the stiffer springs, bigger brakes and the ARB. AFIK the lower cam box (exhaust cam box) requires the bulkhead bashed back an inch or so for clearance, breaking the spot welds, and then re-welded back onto the chassis leg.

If fitting the Lotus head on the 2L or 2.3L block then you avoid any sump clearance modifications, or the need for a Lotus/Toyota gearbox, you can use the GM 4 speed or an HS / VX4/90 Getrag or even a ZF.

Don't forget you will need an OHC axle or sone other suitable one modified to fit.

Is this the lovely Riveria Blue X14 that you are considering modifying?........ :(

this is the car however the original engine has now gone and want to change it, was going to modify the 1256 crossmember and maybe the transmission mount but certainly do not want to alter the bulkhead/tunnel in any way so could move it forward maybe a bit.already have the magnum front springs, brakes and anti roll bar.not going to do anything that cannot be returned to stock if needed.rear axle will have to stay(for now)got a 4ha rear end here that will need modding to fit the body.
