Making the best of a bad situation – Thoughts?

Postby OllieParkes » Mon May 06, 2019 2:20 pm

Hi all,
My HC is currently undergoing restoration, with the hope of going to the Haslemere car show on the 26th May. We are quickly realising we cannot get a finished car to the event.

To make the best of a bad situation, we’ve had an idea. Since it is most likely that the car would be unpainted (apart from primer), we were thinking of bringing a bunch of felt pens to the event and getting the kids to write on the wings. Either what they think the car should be named, or to just get people drawing on it. We thought it would be a bit of a laugh, and worst case the car is getting repainted anyway.

What is everyone’s thoughts on this? Too risky around other cars?

I think that's a very good idea a bit of info on the car and the reasons why and i'm sure you will have people queuing to write/draw something, great advertising for the Viva and will no doubt draw attention to photographers and media/magazines etc.
I would also add a bucket and ask for a small donation which will go to your favorite charity aswel. :goodideasign:

That's a great idea, but use 'dry wipe markers' rather than Sharpies. Sharpie ink will bleed through primer unless it is totally removed.

The dry wipe option allows you to wipe off any unwanted remarks and refresh the drawing board if it gets too full.

Good idea Ollie, gives the kids something to do and lets them and their parents know what a Viva looks like!

Sounds like a good idea, especially if you have a bucket for donations!

Great Idea Ollie, keep the Viva flag flying and all that.

Sadly I've got to miss this year as we are in the throws of moving house, and I couldn't guarantee that I would have the time, so let my space go to the waiting list!!

If I CAN find a spare couple of hours I may just drive over and see what is occurring, and see if there is any last minute space??, but not holding my breath!

Good luck with it anyway!

Chalk is quite hard and needs a rough surface to be able to write on. The GRP and existing paint are too smooth and heavy use of chalk on them will probably produce deep scratching.

Thank you for your suggestions, I like the idea of dry wipe markers :goodideasign:

I'll keep you all informed with how it goes.

As for a donations bucket, Ill be raising money for the JBVC foundation. I have been using this charity for a while now with my projects, and they are a good charity.

Bob: Thats a shame, I hope moving house goes well. I think I saw a few free spaces last year.
