Inertia reel seat belts

Postby Mike Attew » Fri Sep 27, 2019 10:38 pm

I have searched and seen some items but has anybody fitted inertia reel seat belts to an early 2 door HC? without using the the anchor point next to the seat to avoid a trip hazard for rear passengers.
I am just finding it time consuming with keep changing the existing belt size with different passengers.
Picture is of the rear side so just wondering if it may be possible somehow?

I changed them on my HB which included strengthening the new mounts at the back at the point of the inner sill, the rear outer sills were being redone at the time so made it a bit easier.

Ideal time to do them and looks a solid job. Unfortunately mine is finished so unless I cause a rear passenger trip hazard I don't think I can do it and be safe. Nice pictures though and gives me a bit of thought.

Should have mentioned the shoulder strap is bad enough on the standard HB belt, ie cuts into your neck, this conversion makes it worse so you will need a drop down link idealy.

It brings the belt down to a much better position, however will need the belt professionally restitched to fit it.
Yeh go for it Bob, would be an ideal time.

Where did you get the drop down strap from then?

I had to get it from the states, spent ages looking for a nice solid one but found nothing in the uk.

I used the original anchor points for mine, was sick of the buckle on the statics hitting the sill - would have damaged the paint sooner or later!

Do they cause too much of a hinderence to rear seat passengers?

I don’t think so as early two doors the whole seat tips up instead of the back of the seat tipping forward
